Roadtrippin' Denison to Jefferson:

On April 16th and 17th from 10AM to 5PM travel HWY 30 from Denison to Jefferson for a Roadtrippin' shopping event!  Don't forget to shop at these participating CDC member businesses: Good Samaritan Thrift Store, The Boutique, The Cottage and The Junkery!

From March 13th to April 24th there will be a Spring Market in the Mall, every Saturday from 10AM to 2PM at the Broadway & Main Mall, Denison. Contact Jill Popham at The Boutique or Heather Eischeid at Totally You Boutique for more information.

Lifeguard Training:

The Denison Aquatic Center is offering Lifeguard Training classes on Sunday, April 18th. The fee for class is $160 (including books)

Prerequisites: Must be able to pass skills screening test and turn 15 years of age before the end of class. This is a 30 hour class. Future classes will be scheduled on the first day of class. Call and ask about a potentially FREE certification. Pre-registration is required to reserve your spot.

I Only Want a Peanut Butter Sandwich:

I Only Want a Peanut Butter Sandwich will be offered April 19 or April 21 at 6:30 p.m. In this session, you’ll learn about eating habits that are normal for young children, strategies that promote healthy eating habits, and how to foster pleasant mealtime experiences.

The cost is $5 per session and all child care providers in the home daycare, community daycare and pre-school settings are welcome to attend. All trainings are approved by the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) for 2 hours of credit. The Just a Bite and I Only Want a Peanut Butter Sandwich trainings are also approved for Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Child Care Professional Development Credit. Enrollment must be completed in I-Power at https://ccmis.dhs.state.ia.us/TrainingRegistry/TrainingRegistry/Public/ with fee submitted online.

Virtual Women in Business Luncheon:

Join us for this year's Virtual Women in Business Luncheon on Wednesday, April 21st from Noon-1pm on Zoom!  This year's theme is "Faith over Fear" and the Keynote Speaker will be Taryn Frideres, Chief Operating Officer for Governor Reynolds. The premium event sponsors include Broadway Dental, Cobalt Credit Union, and Crawford County Memorial Hospital. The Annual Women in Business Awards will also be presented during the program including the Emerging Woman in Business and the Businesswoman of the Year.  Tickets may be purchased in advance for $15 each and include a $10 voucher that can be used at a variety of local restaurants.  Each participant will also receive a small gift bag. Crawford County Right to Life:

The Crawford County Right to Life group will hold their monthly meeting on April 27 at Our Savior Lutheran Church at 7:00PM. Anyone is welcome to attend!

Grant Writing 101:

Representatives of nonprofits, local governments, schools and other organizations are encouraged to register for Grant Writing 101, which will be presented from 1:30PM to 4:30PM on Thursday, April 29th at the Crawford County Extension office, 35 S. Main, Denison.

The workshop is being sponsored by the Crawford County Chamber and Development Council, American Protein Company and ISU Extension and Outreach Crawford County. Grant Writing 101 will provide hands-on training in seeking and writing successful grant applications.

Pre-registration is required, and class size is limited to 25 individuals, with priority given to Crawford County Residents. To register, contact Kathy Thul, (712) 263-4697 by Monday, April 19.

Grant Writing 101 will be presented by Jane Nolan Goeken, Community and Economic Development Specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach. Goeken has more than 30 years of experience writing and reviewing grant applications and working with various federal, state, local and private foundation grant programs. She will assist workshop participants in exploring various public and private funding sources, and provide instructions and tips on planning projects and writing successful grant applications.

Renew Health and Wellness Fair:

A Renew Health and Wellness Fair will be held at the Boulders Conference Center in Denison from 9AM to 3PM. Mask required with social distancing.

 

 

Manilla Madness:

Enjoy a 28 mile scenic bike ride through beautiful Crawford County on Saturday May 1st! The ride begins at the Denison Hy-Vee parking lot at 9AM, with registration beginning at 8AM.  The cost for this event is $15 (pre-registered before April 26th) or $18 (registering after April 26th).

Women in Business Impact Organization Meeting:

This month's WIBIO meeting will be held via Zoom at 8:30am.  Membership is free and all women are welcome to attend.  For more information on this organization, contact a member or the CDC Office at 712-263-5621.

Dinner, Auction & Dueling Fiddles:

The Zion Lutheran School is sponsoring a Dinner, Auction and Dueling Fiddlers on Saturday, May 8th at the Stables at Copper Ridge. Doors will open at 4:30PM with dinner being served at 6:00PM. Violinists Geneieve Salamone and Hanna Wolle, the Dueling Fiddles from Des Moines will be performing a wide range of music ranging from Celtic Rock to modern pop favorites.  Tickets to this event are available in the Zion Lutheran School office. Price of adults tickets will be $40 and children ages 12 and under are $20.

Norelius Community Library Virtual Agriculture Read-along:

Norelius Community Library will be hosting a monthly read-along with Loess Hills Agriculture in the Classroom on the second Thursday of each month at 4pm.  Families can enjoy a virtual story time from a farm featuring the My Family's Farm book series.  After  reading each story, participants will have a chance to see animals, crops and other things on the farm.  The programs will be live so students can have their questions answered in real time and learn more about agriculture. Each program will focus on a different topic.  To view the live stream, viewers should go to the Norelius Community Library Facebook page and scroll down until they see the video. Activity kits and invitations to the live program are available and can be picked up during regular library hours two weeks before each program.  The program is supported in part by the Crawford County Farm Bureau.

BQA Training:

Beef producers needing to renew or obtain their certification for Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) can attend an in-person workshop held Tuesday, May 18th. The training will be held at the Denison Livestock at 501 N. 9th Street, Denison from 6:30PM - 8:30PM. Call the Extension office to get registered.

The Crawford County Cattlemen will be serving a free meal beginning at 6:00PM for those who attend. Please RSVP for the training on May 18th by contacting the Crawford County Extension Office by calling 712-263-4697 or emailing kthul321@iastate.edu.
