Crawford County Shooting Sports Results from Saturday May 14th 2022

Coach Mike Schrum gives an update from this past weekends home meet in Denison.

Here is the update for this past Saturday’s second home meet that was held in Denison. For once the kids had a beautiful day to compete, and the scores that were put on the board showed that the students were finally able to compete against each other and not Mother Nature. Crawford County Shooting Sports had 61 students in the competition, with an overall student count of 177 students that competed from within the conference. The competition was tight with all teams shooting very well, so it made for a very fun and exciting shoot.

The HS squad scores were as equally as impressive as they were close Saturday. Ida County took the first place finish with a squad score of 233 (out of 250), our Crawford County Shooting Sports HS Gold team shot a score of 232. This Gold team consisted Levi Steinkamp, Garret Plagge, John Graeve, Talon Adams, and Derek Scheuring. Ida County also took third place with their score of 230 and South Central Calhoun was right there in fourth place at a 229.

The HS Men’s division had the top 16 individual spots taken by scores of 46/50 or higher, so some pretty impressive scores. Patrick Mumm and Levi Steinkamp both shot perfect round scores of 25/25 for us on Saturday. Ida County had one shooter that ran perfect rounds back-to-back today and brought home the first place finish with his combined score of 50. Levi Steinkamp brought home second place for our team with his combined score of 49. South Central Calhoun brought home the third place finish with a 49/50 while having a lower Reverse Run score than Levi. Patrick Mumm and John Graeve brought home the 7th and 8th place positions with their scores of 47 and Talon Adams and Garret Plagge were knocking on the door with their scores of 46.

The HS ladies division proved equally as intense yesterday. Kallie Bromert brought home our top place score of third place yesterday with her score of 43. Brittany Musgrave brought home 4th place with a 42 and Taya Adams brought home the fifth place finish with her score of 41. Ida County had a pair of ladies shooting a 47 that brought home first and second place.

The MS Squads turned out to be a ten-round fight yesterday with some great shooting by several teams. Ida County and Carroll County tied the leaderboard with their scores of 188. Our MS teams then took the next four positions with our MS Blue team bringing home third place overall. The MS Gold team tied our Blue team with their matching scores of 186, however the reverse run showed the Blue team being the rightful owner of the third place position. Out of the 1,000 targets that were thrown to these four squads, it came down to only two of those targets in determining the top four scoring positions. The Crawford County MS Blue Team consisted of Karson Bromert, Huntur Johannsen, Tyson VonGlan, Gracen Plagge, and Gavin Bral.

Our MS Men’s division brought home seven out of the Top 11 positions Saturday, just missing out on the top position. Brenden Sieren and Jett Paulson brought home the second and third place positions with their scores of 43. A Carroll County shooter brought home the top spot with his score of 44. Again, a lone target is what it came down to. Tyson VonGlan brought home the 4th place position, shooting a score of 41. Luke Schneider, Owen Fink, and Cale Paulsen were then right there behind them with their scores of 40.

The MS Ladies division brought home the Top 4 positions in their class Saturday, shooting exceptionally well. These ladies have grown into some exciting shooters, and its been fun watching them progress throughout the season. Ava Pauley brought home the first place finish today with her winning score of 42. Gracen Plagge was right there in second place with her score of 40 while Grace Collins rounded out the Top 3 with her combined score of 25.

We take Saturday off this week while we prepare for the upcoming Conference Final meet that will be held at home this year on May 28th. For that reason there will be no update sent after this upcoming weekend, however we will re-convene with the next update after the Conference Finals meet is held. The State Competition begins the first full week of June, so the excitement and anticipation is building for that event as well. The Crawford County Shooting Sports team will be represented by 39 students at the State Competition, so let the fun begin!
