Iowa State’s Joens named Big 12 Player of the Week

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State’s Ashley Joens claimed her second Big 12 Player of the Week award of the season after another outstanding pair of performances last week. This is Joens’ second Player of the Week of the season, having also claimed one in November following the wins at UNI and Columbia. It is the Cyclones’ third of the season, with Stephanie Soares winning at the end of November following the PKI.

Joens is now a 12-time Big 12 Player of the Week, now tied for second in Big 12 history for career Player of the Week honors with former Cyclone Bridget Carleton (2016-19). It also marked the 60th time in program history the Cyclones have earned the Big 12 Player of the Week award, the second-most among the league’s programs.

Joens began the week for the then-No. 18 Cyclones with a double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds in ISU’s 75-35 victory at TCU on Wednesday. It was Joens’ ninth double-double of the season and 58th for her career.

The Cyclone senior saved her best for Saturday at Hilton Coliseum against No. 14 Oklahoma, with Joens finishing with 32 points (her second 30-point outing of the season and 17th for her career), seven rebounds, three assists and two steals, helping guide the Cyclones to an 86-78 victory and keeping ISU atop the Big 12 standings.

For the week, Joens averaged 25.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, ranking second and fourth, respectively, amongst Big 12 student-athletes.

Joens and the Cyclones resume action on Wednesday at Kansas State. Tip between ISU and KSU will be at 6:30 p.m. from Bramlage Coliseum on Big 12 Now.
