Denison-Schleswig Monarch Boys Bowling Team Wins State for Class 2A

From Coach Brawner:

The Denison-Schleswig Monarchs varsity boys won the state tournament. The began by bowling 15 baker games in the first round of the tournament. Some of their high games
were game #3; 224, game #5; 196, game #6; 201, game #7; 300, game #10; 213, game #11; 254, game #13; 203, and game #13; 203. The highlight
of that round was definitely the 300 game. It was an exciting moment for everyone. When Blake Polzin threw his final strike, the whole bowling
alley cheered. That's the neat thing about bowling. Although everyone is competing, when teams have those big moments, everyone wants to see
them succeed. The boys finished with a series of 2989 placing them in the 6th seed. They would begin the bracket round bowling against Ottumwa.
In the quarter-finals, they bowled games of 226, 225, 193, and 216 winning 3 out of the 4 games. In the semi-finals the boys bowled against North
Scott. They bowled games of 182, 233, 237, and 222 winning the last 3 games. The boys were in the finals with Oskaloosa. They bowled games of
200, 186, and 195 winning in 3 games. After Trey Brotherton threw his last strike, the rest of the team rushed the approach. There was a mix of
emotions from both the players and the parents. It was especially great to watch Coach Jim Harms' reaction when the team won. Things really came
full circle for him considering he's been working with some of these boys since they were little in the Saturday morning youth league. Winning this
championship meant a lot to everyone involved. These boys have been wanting to make it to the state tournament as a team for years now and they
finally did it. Winning the whole thing was just an added bonus. After everything sank in, as a team we reflected on past state champions in the
school and you begin to realize what a rare moment this is. It brings another level of appreciation into winning that title. We couldn't be more proud
of the team's success. It makes those long nights of practice these past few weeks worth it.
