Crawford County Supervisors continue to wrestle with Ridge Road tower
The Crawford County Board of Supervisors opened their Tuesday weekly meeting with a closed session regarding the Ridge Road communications tower and finished off their published agenda by fielding tense citizen input with much of it related to that matter.
The public debate lasted around 30 minutes with Supervisor Kyle Schultz and Chairperson Jeri Vogt mainly engaging with Peggy Staley and John Granzen. It touched briefly on topics such as minutes from Crawford County E-911 Service Board meetings, the past installation and current function of a communication tower near Charter Oak, and the recent State Auditor’s report about the separate Ridge Road tower which in part named the E-911 Board and Crawford County Firefighters Association.
The board approved one bridge project and discussed the possibility of another in the near future with County Engineer Paul Assman. The supervisors agreed to federal-aid swap funding with the Iowa Department of Transportation for a county bridge over Fleming Creek on H Avenue near Westside. They also heard a quarterly tourism report by Shani Bonner from the Chamber and Development Council of Crawford County. Bonner reported back about events like Manilla Madness, Red, White, and BOOM, and the Highway 141 Garage Sales. She also looked forward to the upcoming Tri-City BBQ Fest and an ongoing map project to help visitors discover what the county has to offer.
The supervisors also approved new Iowa State Medical Examiner autopsy transportation agreements with Pauley Jones and Pfannebecker Funeral Home as well as Huebner Funeral Home. They renewed the appointment of Sheri Vaughn to the Region XII Regional Housing Authority Board of Directors for another term. The board canvassed the votes cast in the Denison First Ward Special Election with Chairperson Jeri Vogt and Supervisor Ty Rosburg taking part in the public reading.
Supervisor Jean Heiden did not attend this meeting in person but joined the closed session via Zoom.
