Firefighters evacuate Dow City elementary school after reported smoke

Multiple fire departments responded to Dow City at approximately 3:29 p.m. on Thursday after a call reporting smoke in the elementary school gymnasium. Firefighters evacuated all students from Boyer Valley Community School while investigating the source of the smoke. The Dow City-Arion Community Fire Department discovered that the fan motor went bad in a ceiling vent and caused the smoke. Departments continued to help with the ventilation of the school building after they determined the smoke source. The Denison Volunteer Fire Department and Dunlap Fire and Rescue assisted the Dow City-Arion crew at the scene.
