Accident near Lidderdale leaves one woman injured
After an accident near Lidderdale, 34 year old Sonya Smires suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries after being hit by a pickup early Tuesday morning while walking her dog around 1:45 a.m. near Lidderdale. 49 year old Lonnie Kastle, who lives with Smires, went out looking for her in a 2003 Ford F-350, and Smires appeared in front of him and was dressed in dark clothing and in the middle of an unlit road. Kastle applied the brakes but still struck Smires with the front of the pick-up. As Kastle jumped out of the truck, which was a manual, and placed in neutral, the truck rolled backwards and entered a ditch, hitting, and damaging a fence. Initial investigation evidence finds that Kastle's report of the incident likely coincides with the evidence found at the scene. Kastle was not impaired, Smires was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services. There was an estimated $4500 in damage to the pick-up and about $50 of damage to the fence which is owned by Joshua Hoffman. The Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene.
