Crawford County Supervisors establish burn ban, discuss bridge near Vail
The Crawford County Board of Supervisors established a countywide burn ban during their weekly meeting on Tuesday. Emergency Management Coordinator Greg Miller explained the decision to KDSN.
“It helps the firefighters and just don’t want your buildings or homes to have an emergency or something and burn up just because you’re doing a small fire that turns into a big fire,” Miller said. “Just be careful out there and please don’t burn right now. Wait for better weather and some ground moisture so we don’t turn a small fire into a large fire and get somebody hurt.”
The burn ban will remain in place for 60 days or until it is reconsidered by the supervisors.
Mayor Monte Chrichton approached the board to discuss a bridge near the City of Vail. The assistant to the county engineer Ben Schaden joined the conversation as well. Crichton discussed Vail needing help with the Miller Creek bridge on 343rd Street. He says installation took place in 1982 and a recent inspection rated the structure in poor condition after decades of minimal maintenance. He says it will cost an estimated $1.4 million to replace, at least $150,000 to rebuild it, and the City of Vail by itself can’t afford either option. The supervisors agreed to consider helping with the bridge and have secondary roads take a look at it.
