Senator Jason Schultz Reacts to Condition of the State
Governor Kim Reynolds delivered the Condition of the State address to the 2023 Legislature on Tuesday night.
Senator Jason Schultz of Schleswig says he had high expectations for the speech and Reynolds exceeded them.
“It was the best speech I’ve heard from a governor from that podium in my time in Des Moines. I’ve waited a long time for a governor to be that bold and clear and take those strong positions and challenge the legislature to keep up,” said Schultz.
The governor is once again proposing state-funded savings accounts for parents who send their children to private schools. Schultz says he expects the new topic of shrinking the number of state agencies from 37 to 16 could cause the most conversation this year.
“Everybody knew that it was coming. Nobody knew much about the details. I will probably be running this bill myself in State Government. I believe it’s the right thing to do. Every 30 or 40 years the legislature and the governors just move pieces around to the point where it doesn’t make sense anymore and it all needs to be put back in place. We’re expecting a 2,500-page bill that’s going to take a while. I plan to look at every page of it and work my way through it,” said Schultz.
