Ida County in "red flag" fire danger warning. Other counties warned of fire danger as well
Ida County is in a red flag warning for expected extreme fire conditions this afternoon. Strong gusty northwest winds are expected to develop by mid morning and continue through the remainder of the day. As temperatures warm, dry air from aloft is expected to mix to the surface leading to relative humidities falling to 20 to 25 percent south of I-90. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
Numerous local counties and many other counties in Iowa are also considered to be in elevated fire danger today. The nearby counties in elevated fire danger are Crawford, Sac, Carroll, Audubon, and Greene County. Any fires that develop could spread rapidly. Therefore, outdoor burning is not recommended.
