Iowa State Patrol responded to 258 service calls over icy weekend
From 3 p.m. on Friday to 9 a.m. on Sunday, the Iowa State Patrol responded to 258 service calls statewide, as an ice storm covered much of the state’s roads, causing hazardous conditions for drivers throughout the weekend.
The breakdown of the 258 calls includes 93 crashes, 78 property damage incidents, 14 reported injuries, 1 fatality, and 138 motorist assists.
Iowa State Patrol Sergeant Alex Dinkla emphasized the dangers of icy roads, noting that even cautious drivers can face challenges in such conditions.
“Sometimes, we really urge people to slow down, drive cautiously, and be patient. But in these ice conditions, sometimes there’s just nothing you can do when the roads are completely ice-covered, and your vehicle can't get traction,” Dinkla said.
