Lake City Man Faces Maximum of 10 Years in Prison for Illegal Possession of a Firearm
A Lake City man faces up to ten years in prison after pleading guilty to illegal possession of a gun.
52-year-old Jeffrey Carothers has been convicted for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Carothers has previous felony charges in California, which prohibits him from holding a firearm.
During his plea hearing, Carothers admitted that he possessed a nine-millimeter pistol in the Spring of 2019. He also confessed to the use of methamphetamine, which he exchanged for guns, along with marijuana, roughly six times in the last couple of years.
Carothers's sentence is pending, and he faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years. He was fined 250-thousand dollars and will have up to 3 years of supervised release.
