Denison City Council to Discuss Zoning, Sidewalk Program, and Fireworks Ordinance at Tuesday Meeting

The Denison City Council will convene for its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Denison City Hall. The public is welcome to attend in person or participate remotely via Zoom at this link or by dialing (312) 626-6799 using Meeting ID 453 000 9887 and Passcode 2633143.
The agenda includes several key discussion items and potential actions. Council will consider zoning issues related to the mobile home park at 1903 3rd Avenue South and discuss a Memorandum of Understanding with the local YMCA. A proposed sidewalk inspection program is also on the docket.
Council members will take up multiple ordinances, including one amending parking regulations and another addressing the sale, use, and possession of fireworks within city limits. Both measures could be advanced through additional readings or approved outright if motions to waive further readings are approved.
Additional business includes the approval of new licenses and permits, such as tobacco and device retailer permits for Greenleaf Tobacco & Vape, and a special event permit for Sembrando La Palabra de Dios. Council is also set to approve the hiring of Hazel Gonzalez as an Administrative Assistant at $19.00 per hour starting June 9.
A resolution to set the time and place for a public hearing on proposed zoning changes will be introduced, and the Police Chief may be authorized to sign a state drug control policy grant agreement.
The meeting may also include two closed sessions—one concerning real estate negotiations and another evaluating the professional competency of a city employee. Any actions resulting from those closed sessions will follow in open session.
Mayor and City Manager reports will close out the meeting.
Residents are encouraged to attend or tune in and can offer input during the citizen input portion of the meeting, limited to five minutes per speaker.
