Sac County Deputy and K9 get deserved recognition

A deputy with the Sac County Sheriff's Office and his k9 comrade received recognition for their outstanding performance in locating and removing illegal drugs from the streets in early 2019. Sgt. Jonathan Meyer of the Sac County Sheriff's Office and his k9, named Petey received their Detector Dog Case plaque while completing the annual United States Police Canine Association Patrol Dog Certifications in Algona last week.

This award highlights a seizure of a significant amount of narcotics during a traffic stop just outside Odebolt on April 19th of last year. While law enforcement observed suspicious activity coming from a vehicle and requested assistance from the Sac County k9 unit, Petey alerted officials of a large amount of drugs inside the vehicle and a following search recovered more illegal drugs inside the trunk. Sgt. Meyer and Petey also displayed proficiency in criminal apprehension, responding to gunfire, article searches, obedience, and obstacles at the certification event, which lasted two days.
