Local students selected to receive $1,000 scholarships

Anna Wiges and Jazmine Iglesias of Denison are the winners of the $1,000 Missouri River Energy Services scholarship. Both students are 2023 graduates of Denison High School. They plan to attend Iowa State University. The Wiges’ and Iglesias’ families are customers of Denison Municipal Utilities. Recipients who meet certain requirements each year are eligible to reapply for MRES scholarships for up to three additional years. MRES has an independent scholarship management company to select successful applicants. Academic achievement accounts for 50 percent of the requirements. Applicants are chosen based off of various factors including work experiences, activities, awards, honors, career goals, and plans. Another requirement is to provide a brief narrative about their municipal utility.
