The 13th Annual Manilla Fire Department Outlaw Truck And Tractor Pull Is Set For Saturday
The 13th Annual Truck and Tractor Pull will be on Saturday, June 24th, in Manilla. Registration begins at 4 pm, and the pull starts at 6 pm. The price of admission is $15 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. Corey Gaskill is the Manilla Fire Chief, and he said the event helps fund equipment for the Manilla Fire Department. “We’ve had some pretty good donations over the years from everything, and we’ve bought a lot of equipment that we didn’t have to use tax dollars for. We actually built two quick attacks with them from top to bottom without any tax money involved. We bought a tanker with some of it.” Gaskill said the Outlaw Tractor Pullers come from all over the Midwest, like Texas, Kansas, and Missouri. “We have about 80 hooks in the pull itself, amongst seven classes, tractors, and pickups. And then we also, at the very end, if we have time, we have some local semis that hook on a pull.” There will be Pro Stock 4×4 Pickups, Light Limited Mods, Super Farm Ltd Pro Stocks, Natural Aspirated 2-Wheel Drives, and much more. There will be a beer garden and food stands. The IKM-Manning junior class helps with the food stands, and the Manilla Fire Department donates some revenue to their after-prom. Gaskill said it takes many volunteers to put the event on, but it is worth it to put on a good show for the fans. He added that it is a family-friendly event, but people may want earplugs as it does get loud. Tractor pulling is known as “the world’s heaviest motorsport.” But these tractors are not necessarily like the ones you’d find out in a field. While they might look similar, these tractors or trucks are modified, and they pull a metal sled filled with weight that is mechanically winched forward as the sled progresses along the course. The goal is to determine which machine is the strongest and which driver is the best. It’s not about speed, but distance pulled.
