Schleswig’s 75th Calf Show Days Celebration September 15th and 16th

Schleswig’s 75th Calf Show Days Celebration September 15th and 16th

Schleswig’s 75th Calf Show Days Celebration will take place on Friday, September 15th and Saturday September 16.  President for the Schleswig Community Club, Ryan Ernst said there’s history behind the event. “We’ve been going now for 75 years. I’ve only been president the last few years.  Started out as kids would have pens of 5 calves and basically show them. Whoever had the best pen of calves would take the prize, take the trophy home. Years ago we lost that; it just kinda started falling apart as people didn’t have as much livestock anymore but we still carry on the celebration in town.”  Ernst said there’s plenty of carnival tickets that weekend available. “No shortage of tickets, pre-sale tickets, there’s 10 tickets for 5 dollars, the day of the celebration there’s 10 tickets for 6 dollars. All the childrens rides, small rides, are going to be one ticket only, large rides are going to be two tickets so nothing more than a buck for the weekend.”  There is also the potential that weekend for some lucky children to win a bike Enrst said. “With every pre-sale of ten tickets there's going to be a raffle drawing ticket for children.  At the end of the event we will draw for one boys and one girls bike Saturday evening so they get a free entry into that drawing.” Ernst’s Wife Laura said events really start getting going that Friday night. “We start off with the pedal pull for preschool through 6th grade. Thye meet down at the end of 2nd street by the fire station. We give out ride tickets as prizes  for the winners. Followed up by the food trucks; we have the Odebolt bowling alley coming back for the third year in a row for us and Flaco’s Tacos.”  After Friday night, Saturday will feature a parade in the community Ernst said. “The parade starts at 10:30 a.m., line up for the parade is at 9:30 a.m and starts at the Schleswig School.  There’s no pre-registration required if you want to get a float in , just show up at the school. We’ll be handing out forms there and we line everybody up. If you have a kiddy parade entry float, parade floats with children on, you will line up at 6th and Cedar. You can reach out to Laura Ernst for that.”  For all the activities taking place that weekend one can go to the event Facebook page, “Schleswig Calf Show Days Celebration”.
