Denison, Schleswig School Boards Name Dr. Kim Buryanek Next Shared Superintendent
The Denison Community School District and Schleswig Community School District School Boards have named Dr. Kim Buryanek as the districts’ next shared superintendent.
As a PK-12 learning division administrator for the Iowa Department of Education, Buryanek has overseen one of three divisions. Her role has included providing leadership and supervising staff within seven bureaus, as well as collaborating with bureau chiefs to support schools, school districts, and area education agencies.
In 2020, Buryanek was named Central Office Administrator of the Year by the School Administrators of Iowa. She holds a doctoral degree in educational leadership and policy studies from Iowa State University, in addition to a master’s degree in educational administration from South Dakota State University. Prior to her current role, Buryanek served as associate superintendent of the Sioux City CSD for eight years.
"I am deeply honored to be selected as the next superintendent for the Denison and Schleswig Community School Districts,” said Buryanek. “I am excited to bring my experience in educational leadership and policy to these vibrant communities, working collaboratively to ensure every student receives a high-quality education. Together, we will continue to foster an environment where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.”
Board members worked with Grundmeyer Leader Services to conduct the search. Buryanek interviewed with stakeholder interview groups consisting of parents, teachers, support staff, and community members on February 26.
Buryanek will officially begin leading the Denison and Schleswig Community School Districts on July 1, 2024.
