Comments by Coach Eller: “We went into a strong wind in the 1st half and went into the half
tied 0-0 despite allowing 20 shots. Defensively, we did a good job again and forced most of
their shots from outside of 18 yards. Offensively, we need to fix the funk we are in. We aren’t
getting off enough shots. The possession was again close to 50/50, but the shots taken weren't
close to 50/50. We continued to lose possession when it became time to shoot. For some
reason, our girls won’t take the defender when we have 1 on 1s to create a shot and instead
look to pass to players who have multiple defenders in the area. We have not been dropping
the passes to our midfielders when we don’t have room to shoot. We are rushing our shots
when we have time, therefore we aren’t getting any power behind our shots. We had about 5
great opportunities from inside of 25 yards with the wind at our back, but we didn’t put any of
those shots on goal. Those opportunities are rare against good soccer teams and we need to be
better in those situations. We lost too many opportunities to create shots because we aren’t
connecting our passes to each other. Sam had another great game in goal and our defense of
Jimena Lupian, Xochitl Arellano, Jocelyn Serrato, Janet Castillo, Leilany Morales and Giana
Garcia had a great game as they marked up their players very well forcing them to take shots
from further out. We’ve now gone 7 games in a row where we’ve had to play without at least 2
girls, for various reasons, who are in our rotation. Hopefully, we will get back to full strength
soon”.
