Lillian Martha Block was born on May 20, 1928, to Fred and Mary(Berndt) Hartmann in Denison, Iowa. She grew up in the Mantino area, west of Earling. Lillian went to county school until eight grade and later went back and earned her GED. She worked for the Dunham and Grady families. Lillian married Francis Block on April 19, 1948. The couple lived on the Grady farm, moved to the farm south of town and then purchased the farm east of Dunlap. Lillian was a hard-working wife and mother.
Lillian was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She was a Catholic Daughter, a member of the Alter Society, taught CCD and was on the care center auxiliary. Lillian liked to travel. She also enjoyed bingo, sewing, quilting, gardening and canning, and she made the best fried chicken and apple pie.
Lillian died on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 92 years, five months and 23 days.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Francis Block; sons, Russell and Robert Block; daughter-in-law, Linda Block; son-in-law, Rick Flegler; grandson, Clint Flegler; and brother, Bill Hartmann. She is survived by seven children, Karen & her husband Gary Harmeyer of Virginia Beach, VA, Deb Swift of Dunlap, Francis "Fanny" Block & his wife Treva of Dunlap, Sue Flegler of Great Bend, Kansas, Connie Carter of Dunlap, Nancy & her husband John Wegner of Woodbine and Randy Block of Dunlap; daughter-in-law, Serilda Block of Dow City; 30 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sister, Marie Petersen of Denison; sister-in-law, Marie Coenen of Harlan; and many other relatives and friends
