Comments from the Monarch coaching staff:
Tough night of wrestling with tough competition in Carroll and I thought we wrestled pretty well with
bright spots throughout. I can't say there were a ton of surprises in terms of results.
Daniela Salinas was the highlight with two quality wins before falling to a state placer in the championship.
Yarecze Rodriguez finished third after dropping a tough match in the semis. Angie Rivera and Giana Garcia
both battled through tough brackets to finish fourth and Kasandra Barroso ripped off three wins in a row
after losing to a state placer in the quarters.
As always, the results don't tell the whole story. Yarecze put together a sequence in her third place match
that was as good as we've seen from her. Giana probably wrestled better in her third place match against a
tough girl than she did in her win. Kasandra and Daniela are starting to put it together and continuing to
wrestle through situations and run their feet - and their teammates are taking notice of these things.
It was great to wrestle some tough girls at this point in the season. We've talked to the girls about everyone
being in a different spot in their progression and now it's about maximizing your improvement in the next
three weeks to prep for regionals. There isn't a magic potion they can take that's going to give them all the
answers - we just have to keep putting the work in and reflecting on the matches we wrestle to improve.
We are back in action on Saturday at a tough Lo-Ma tournament.
