UNI football coach Todd Stepsis on QB battle and summer workouts

UNI football coach Todd Stepsis says he will select a starting quarterback in mid-August. Aiden Dunne, Matthew Shecklman, and Jaxon Dailey are part of a competition that Stepsis will let play out through summer workouts and the first part of fall camp. Stepsis frequently used two quarterbacks while he was at Drake and says that is likely to happen in his first season with the Panthers. Stepsis originally planned to name a starting quarterback at the end of spring drills. Dunne was the week one starter last season and played in eight games. Schecklman appeared in nine games. Dailey is a transfer from Arkansas State who prepped at Southeast Polk High School. The Panthers are in the midst of summer workouts as Stepsis takes over a program that finished 3-9 in the final season under long-time coach Mark Farley. Stepsis says summer workouts take on added importance when a new coaching staff takes over. The Panthers open at home against Butler on August 30th.
