Kyle Bartels to step down as Woodbine boys basketball coach
Woodbine’s Kyle Bartels has announced he is stepping down as the school’s boys basketball head coach.
Kyle Bartels had major success in his 15 year career at the helm for Woodbine, guiding the Tigers to three straight state tournament appearances.
Bartels announced his decision in a release sent to KDSN via Matt Gengler of the Missouri Valley Times:
"I wanted to share with all of you that I will be stepping down as the head boys basketball coach.
I am incredibly grateful for this staff, community, and district, and all that you have done to support our basketball program over the years. Your encouragement, flexibility, and belief in what we were building meant more than you may realize.
The past 15 years have been a true blessing. While the historic runs and record-breaking seasons will always be memorable, I am most proud of the opportunity I had to coach so many outstanding young men who grow into selfless individuals who care deeply about their teammates, families, and community.
This decision was not easy. However, the time and commitment required to coach at this level has grown to the point where it is more than I can balance. I told the players "This doesn't mean I'm leaving or anything-- it just means my priorities are shifting."
Thank you again for everything you have done to support this program. I look forward to cheering on the Tigers from the stands alongside all of you next season."
