Monarch Baseball Season Ends in Extra-Inning Heartbreaker at Harlan

The Denison-Schleswig Monarchs saw their 2026 season come to a heartbreaking end Monday night, falling to Harlan 6-5 in eight innings in Class 3A District Tournament action.
The Monarchs battled back throughout the night and refused to go away. Trailing by three runs in the top of the seventh inning, Denison-Schleswig rallied to tie the game when Roman Bygness delivered a clutch three-run double, earning the Kastner Seed Hoegemeyer Hitter of the Game honors.
Denison-Schleswig finished the night with 10 hits, but Harlan answered with a walk-off run in the bottom of the eighth inning to advance.
On the mound, Camdyn Nemitz turned in an outstanding performance, working seven strong innings while striking out eight batters and keeping the Monarchs within striking distance throughout the game.
With the loss, Denison-Schleswig closes the season with an impressive 22-9 overall record.
The game also marked the final time in a Monarch uniform for eight seniors: Cole Kastner, Owen Galvin, Roman Bygness, Camdyn Nemitz, Ryan Slechta, Andy Pederson, Linkin Beeck, and Braxtyn Wilcox. Their leadership and contributions helped guide the Monarchs to another successful season and leave a lasting impact on the program.
