Southwest Iowa American Cancer Society Looking for Volunteer Drivers in Denison for their Road to Recovery Program
Southwest Iowa American Cancer Society is currently looking for volunteer drivers for their “Road to Recovery” program. Suzie Mages, Senior Community Development Manager discussed their goals as an organization in general. “We try to have a visible presence in all communities in Southwest Iowa. We do different things such as Relay for Life which is probably what is most commonly known in a lot of communities but we’re also doing more specialized fundraising efforts and then more mission delivery in the community as the need arises.” One program they’re currently focusing on is their Road to Recovery program, Mages said. “We have a Road to recovery program which is a place for volunteer drivers to help patients in need get to and from. We were contacted by St. Anthony’s Cancer Center in Caroll that there will be a person from the Denison area that is going to need some help getting to her daily radio appointments.” Mages said there are a couple ways to become a Road to Recover Driver. “So the easiest one I would suggest would be if you’re computer savvy go to cancer.org\drive or if you’re more comfortable on the phone please call 1-800-227-2345 and tell them you want to become a Road to Recovery Driver.” Mages said you can also support patients via their Amazon wish list program. “More and more patients in our communities have to travel outside their local communities for treatment and our wishlist is just ways that our local communities can help out if they're so inclined. They can purchase things from Amazon and send directly to the hope lodges.” Mages said that if anyone would like to help support in anyway, they can get a hold of her at Suzie.Mages@cancer.org.
