Man arrested for attempting to steal a car in Manning
26-year-old Caleb Jaymz Douglas Thomson of Burt has pleaded not guilty to charges of theft and burglary following an attempted car theft in Manning last month. Thomson was arrested after attempting to steal a vehicle near the Kerkhoff Shelter House on Ann Street. The car's owner witnessed Thomson trying to take the vehicle and intervened. In response, Thomson became aggressive toward the victim, who retreated to his shop to call law enforcement. While the victim was inside, Thomson tried to force his way into the building by kicking and pushing on the door. The owner then exited the shop and entered his house, but Thomson again attempted to gain entry by kicking and pushing the door. Thomson now faces charges of second-degree burglary and second-degree robbery, both class C felonies. A jury trial is set for February 18, 2025. If convicted, Thomson could face up to 20 years in prison and fines up to $27,320.
