Nebraska Man Gets Probation for Burglary Attempt in Manning

A Nebraska man has been sentenced to probation following a failed car theft and home break-in in Manning. Court documents from Carroll County District Court reveal that 26-year-old Caleb Jaymz Douglas Thomson, of Burt, Nebraska, attempted to steal a BMW in October 2024. The vehicle’s owner interrupted the theft, prompting Thomson to act aggressively and force his way into both a shop and a residence on the property.
Thomson later pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary, a Class C felony, in February 2025. Although the crime carries a potential 10-year prison sentence, the court chose to suspend that sentence and instead placed Thomson on three years of probation, which will be served at a residential facility. Additional charges, including second-degree robbery, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication, were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
