Governor deploys Iowa National Guard soldiers to assist ICE agents in Iowa

Governor Kim Reynolds is deploying 20 Iowa National Guard soldiers for nearly 10 weeks to assist federal immigration officials in Iowa.
In a news release issued this morning, Reynolds said the Iowa National Guard soldiers will provide logistical and administrative support to Iowa-based officials with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Reynolds said it will “free up” local ICE officials to “continue their work outside the office to enforce the law and keep our state safe.” The deployment starts September 8 and ends November 15.
Reynolds said Iowa will continue to assist in the enforcement of federal immigration laws, just as it did during the Biden Administration. Reynolds deployed state troopers and Iowa National Guard soldiers to Texas in 2021, 2022, and 2024.
