King Theatre Hosts Third Annual 712 Film Festival
On Saturday, July 12th, local student and professional short films were featured during the third annual 712 Film Festival, held in Ida Grove, Iowa at the King Theatre.
"We were very pleased with the variety and quality of the films,” said 712 Film Festival Committee Member Greg Sextro. “We are happy with the turnout and grateful for our partnership with the King Theatre.”
The student films came from schools including IKM-Manning, Denison, Woodbine, Postville, and the University of Iowa. The professional films were submitted from various locations in Iowa. The films were reviewed by two judges and the festival producers to determine the award winners.
The festival presented several awards, including the Judges’ Choice, with “Before the Storm” earning 1st place, “AI vs My Sketchbook” taking 2nd, and “Mystery of the Enigma – Crypids Edition” securing 3rd. The Producers’ Choice award went to “Orange Is the New Jerk”, while the Audience Choice award was given to “Mystery of the Enigma”, which also received a $50 prize.
Committee members who organized the event included Greg Sextro, Manning Theatre Guild member and retired Manning attorney; Ryan Runyan, local filmmaker and high school speech film advisor; Grace Sextro, an IKM-Manning graduate and current filmmaker; Dan Mundt, a filmmaker and local writer; and Chuck Hughes, Manning Theatre Guild member and current screenwriter.
"We’d like to thank all the filmmakers who submitted their films and the community members who supported local creatives,” said committee member Grace Sextro.
