Storm Lake Council Member Meg McKeon Launches Write-In Campaign for Mayor

Storm Lake City Council member Meg McKeon has officially announced a write-in campaign for mayor, stepping forward after weeks of encouragement from residents and careful personal reflection.
With no official candidates listed on the ballot, McKeon says she felt a responsibility to offer voters a qualified choice and continue her service to the community.
Background and Experience
McKeon brings decades of leadership and administrative experience to the race. A clinical social worker by training, she has held senior roles in higher education, including:

Vice President for Student Affairs at Buena Vista University

Assistant Vice President at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine

Dean of Students at Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland
Throughout her career, she has also been active as an educator and mentor. McKeon says her professional background in leadership, communication, and organizational development has prepared her to guide the Storm Lake City Council effectively.
Community Involvement
Since moving to Storm Lake more than 13 years ago, McKeon has been deeply involved in civic and volunteer work. Her service includes roles on the Planning and Zoning Committee, Board of Adjustment, and the City Council.
She also volunteers with several local nonprofits, including Salud, Food with Friends, Caring Paws Rescue, and Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
Campaign Platform
McKeon’s campaign focuses on transparency, retail development, housing, and leadership cultivation. She hopes to:

Storm Lake resident Charles Hernandez has also announced a write-in campaign for mayor.
In the City Council races, incumbent Maggie Martinez is seeking re-election. Challengers Dalton Walker, Richard Riner, and Don Piercy, Jr. have submitted petitions.

Councilman Kevin McKinney vacated his seat due to health reasons, and that two-year term will be filled in this election, with Piercy running for that position.

Councilman Matt Ricklefs has chosen not to seek re-election after serving one term.
