Western Iowa man serving life for 1993 murder dies in prison

A Sioux City man serving life in prison has died.
The Iowa Department of Corrections reports 63-year-old Mathew Scott Hallum died Tuesday in hospice at the Iowa Medical Classification Center in Coralville. Hallum was convicted of first-degree murder, first-degree sexual abuse, and assault inflicting serious injury in the rape and murder of 15-year-old Tanya Rubottom in February of 1993.
Hallum began serving his sentence in 1997.
