Glidden-Ralston Approves Move to Four-Day School Week
(Glidden, IA) The Glidden-Ralston Community School District has announced that it will transition to a four-day instructional week beginning with the 2026–27 school year, following careful consideration and discussion by district leadership and the Board of Education.
Under the new schedule, students will attend school four days per week. The final calendar will be approved in the near future. This change is intended to support staff recruitment and retention, improve work-life balance for students and staff, and maintain high-quality instruction while responsibly managing district resources.
Superintendent Tom Ridder emphasized that student learning remains the district’s top priority. “This decision was made after thoughtful analysis and conversations with stakeholders. We are confident that this model will allow us to continue meeting academic standards while also supporting the overall well-being of our school community.”
The district has ensured that instructional minutes will continue to meet or exceed state requirements. School days may be slightly longer to accommodate the revised schedule, and instructional planning will remain aligned with Iowa Department of Education guidelines.
