Perry Police Investigating After Deceased Premature Infant Found in Trash Container at Day Care Facility
On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at approximately 4:56 p.m., Dallas County Emergency Medical Services was dispatched to Acorns & Oaks Child Care, located on the Perry Lutheran Home Eden Acres campus, for a report of a female experiencing vaginal bleeding. Upon arrival, EMS personnel assessed the patient and transported her to a metro-area hospital at approximately 5:33 p.m.
At approximately 6:22 p.m., officers with the Perry Police Department were notified that a premature infant may be located in a trash container at the daycare facility. Officers responded and, at approximately 6:32 p.m., located a deceased infant inside a trash bag.
A death investigator responded to assist with the investigation. The infant's body has been transported to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny, Iowa, where an autopsy will be conducted.
The infant was not under the care of Acorns & Oaks Child Care and was not a client of the daycare center. At this time, investigators believe there is no threat to the community.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation. No additional information is being released at this time. The Perry Police Department will provide updates to the media as new information becomes available or when future news releases are scheduled.
