Common Sense Parenting - Toddlers and Preschoolers:

Common Sense Parenting for Parents of Toddlers and Preschoolers is a seven-week class developed by the parenting experts at Boys Town and hosted by ISU Extension and Outreach and Early Childhood Iowa that offers training for parents and providers who want to build on their existing skills or learn new ways of dealing with their children's behaviors.  Professional Parent trainers teach the course.  The course will be held on Mondays beginning February 3rd through March 16th at the Crawford County Extension Office, 35 S. Main St in Denison, with a free meal at 5pm and classes from 5:30-7:30pm.  The classes, childcare and evening meal are all FREE. Please call 712.263.4697 to register.

Denison Care Center Lunch and Learn:

Denison Care Center will be having a Lunch and Learn on Wednesday, February 5th at Noon at there location, 1202 Ridge Road, on the topic of Medicare, how it works, and what it covers.  A Medicare rep will be available to answer any questions. 

 

 

Master Gardener Winter Webinar:

There will be a Master Gardener Winter Webinar with the theme of Iowa Weather on Wednesday, February 5th from 1-2pm at the Crawford County Extension Office, 35 S. Main St., in Denison.  State Climatologist Dr. Justin Glisan from the Iowa Dept. of Agriculture and Land Stewardship will share what people can do to adapt ot changing growing conditions.  Call the office at 712.263.4697 to register for the class.

Women in Business Impact Organization Meeting:

This month's WIBIO meeting will be held at ID Apparel in Denison at 8:30am.  Membership is free and all women are welcome to attend.  All participants will be responsible to pay for their own refreshments unless it is a sponsored event.  For more information on this organization, contact a member or the CDC Office at 712-263-5621.

 

 

Schleswig Fire Department Ladies Stagette:

The Schleswig Fire Department's Ladies Stagette will be Friday, February 7th at the Schleswig Community Building.  Doors open at 6pm and the meal catered by Staley's will begin at 7pm.  Tickets are $50.00.

Pre-Valentine's Comedy and Magic Show at Donna Reed Theatre:

Get ready for a night of laughs at the Pre-Valentine's Comedy and Magic Show at the Donna Reed Theatre on Saturday, February 8!  Headliner David Harris is a comedian and magician and winner of 2 Midwest Emmys; Featured performer Linda Aarons was a finalist in Iowa's Comedy Festival and winner of Minnesota's Funniest Person Contest; and Host Moe Yaqub was a finalist in all Twin Cities Comedy Contests!  Tickets are $25 and include Hors de'oeuvres beginning at 6pm, with showtime at 7pm. Adult beverages are now available for purchase. 

 

 

2nd Annual Panfish Palooza Ice Fishing Tournament:

The 2nd Annual Yellow Smoke Lake Panfish Palooza Ice Fishing Tournament will be held February 8-9th, 2020 at Yellow Smoke Park in Denison!  Entries are still being accepted and will be limited to 55 teams. There will be $4,500 in cash prizes to be awarded in the Crappie and Bluegill categories, as well as an optional Big Fish category (new this year!). Entry fee is $100 for a 2 person team, which includes  a meal Saturday night. Please contact Tournament Director Josh Schwarz at 712.291.0150 with any questions. 

 

 

Legislative Coffee:

Join us for a legislative coffee at Cronk's Restaurant in the Angus Room on Saturday, February 8th from 10-11am. This event is a chance for citizens to receive updates from their representatives on legislative priorities and to make their voices heard on important issues. The public is encouraged to attend to engage with your government leaders. For more information, please contact the CDC office at 712-263-5621.

2nd Annual Panfish Palooza Ice Fishing Tournament:

The 2nd Annual Yellow Smoke Lake Panfish Palooza Ice Fishing Tournament will be held February 8-9th, 2020 at Yellow Smoke Park in Denison!  Entries are still being accepted and will be limited to 55 teams. Commercial Ag Weed, Insect and Plant Disease Management Course:

Crawford County will offer the Commercial Ag Weed, Insect and Plant Disease Management Continuing Instruction Course (CIC) for commercial pesticide applicators on Wednesday, February 12 from 9-11:30am.  Registration for the course is $35.  To register or to obtain additional information about the CIC, please contact the ISU Extension and Outreach office in Crawford County at 35 S. Main St or by calling 712.263.4697.

Coleen Barngrover Cancer Benefit:

There will be a Soup Lunch and Auction on February 16th at the Dow City Community Building as a Cancer Benefit for Coleen Barngrover.  The lunch will begin at 12pm  with soups, sandwiches, and desserts and is Free Will Donation.  The Live Auction will begin at 2pm.

Private Pesticide Applicator Course:

The ISU Extension and Outreach Crawford County office will be offering 2 opportunities to attend the Private Pesticide Applicator Continuing Instruction Course led by Extension Field Agronomist Mike Witt.  The first session will be scheduled for February 17 at 1:30pm at the Denison High School Fine Arts Center; the second session is again on February 17 at 6:30pm at the Denison High School Fine Arts Center.  The course will run for approximately 2 1/2 hours and the registration fee is $20.  Please call the Crawford County Extension office at 712.263.4697 for more information. 

 

 

Monday Funday at First United Methodist Church:

All area children are invited to the First United Methodist Church as they host another "Monday Funday" on Monday, February 17th from 1-4pm at the church, located at 113 S. 14th St. in Denison for kids in grades K-5!  To sign up, parents can call the church office at 712.263.2934 or email Denison-First-UMC@iaumc.net.  This program is totally free and focuses on 5 areas of "fun" - Music, Crafts, Storytelling, Science, and Recreation. The children will also be served a snack.  For more information, please contact the First United Methodist Church at 712.263.2934.  Hope to see you there!

First United Methodist Church Annual Soup Supper:

The Annual Soup Supper will be held on Wednesday, February 19th from 4:30-7pm at the First United Methodist Church, 113 S. 14th St. in Denison.  The menu will include chili, chicken noodle soup or ham and bean soup and sandwiches and pie will also be available. The meal will be free will donation and carry out is $9 per quart.

Join us at Noon at Pizza Ranch on Wednesday, February 26th. We would love to increase merchant participation to develop the most effective promotions for your business. That’s why we invite CDC Members to be present at our merchant meetings.
