At Black Hawk Lake
Free live music
PetRock will open the season on June 3 with a live tribute show that you have to hear to believe. Based out of Omaha, PetRock is the nation’s ultimate musical tribute to the smooth rock of the 70’s. Their period threads will make concertgoers believe that a band can travel through time and the feel-good vibes from their live performance will take fans back to the greatest decade of live rock music in history. Regularly selling out shows across the region, PetRock is the premier band of its kind. This must-see show will start at 6pm following the community’s signature Sip & Sample event.
The Independence Day weekend show on July 1 will be a soulful celebration of live music at Black Hawk Lake. Based out of Venice, California, Dustbowl Revival is a large string and brass ensemble whose colorful combination of swing, bluegrass, jazz and Americana have earned them a devoted fanbase coast-to-coast. The band is known for free-flowing and joyous live shows, combining a funky rhythm and brass section with a fast-picking string band section, which has earned them opening slots for bands as diverse as Lake Street Dive, Trombone Shorty and Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
J & the Causeways, a modern soul band from New Orleans, will kick things off at 5pm. With superb songwriting, a powerhouse rhythm section, impressive lead vocals and intricate horn and guitar melodies, this group has been sculpting a robust festival-style sound, winning over crowds across the country. The band has found itself being mentioned in the same breath as bands like St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, and the Marcus King Band – each summoning the pulsating endless energy of soul/R&B music.
On August 5th, the Concert Series will host its first-ever Blues Night at the Stone Pier stage featuring headliner McKinley James. At 21, this Nashville-based blues rock guitarist and singer/songwriter has already been breathing fire for years. His unparalleled musical journey has taken him from the cover art and title track video of Eric Church’s critically acclaimed ‘Mr. Misunderstood’ to stages across America and Europe. His latest EP, Still Standing By, was co- produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys and he has recently toured with the likes of The Mavericks, JD McPherson and the Old 97s. James will be joined by two special guests and past Iowa Blues Challenge Champions. The Ronley King Blues Band brings a variety of musical influences to the table while honoring the spirit and traditions of the blues. Fronted by guitar player/singer Ronley King, who has played the Stone Pier stage previously with Cory Waller & the Wicked Things, the band won the Iowa Blues Challenge in 2022. Buckmiller/Schwager took home top honors as a duo in the 2021 Iowa Blues Challenge and advanced to the semifinals of the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Their latest album was nominated for a Blues Blast Award in the category of “New Emerging Artist Debut” last year. They will kick off this special night of music beginning at 5pm.
Emerging singer/songwriter Tanner Usrey will headline the season finale on Sunday, September 3. Hailing from Prosper, TX, Usrey is a soulful, Americana-rock artist with unforgettable melodies and a hard-hitting sound that has earned him over 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify. His ability to weave together heartfelt lyrics that tell stories allows Usrey to easily connect with audiences and make people think about his songs long after they stop playing. His momentum also landed his single “The Light” on the Season 4 finale of the hit TV show, Yellowstone. Acclaimed solo artist and Grammy-winning songwriter Kendell Marvel will open the September show, starting at 5:30pm. A native of southern Illinois, Marvel has spent more than two decades expanding the boundaries of modern-day country music. His recent albums are filled with songs that split the difference between honky-tony country and roadhouse rock & roll, but his catalog reaches far beyond his solo work with artists like George Strait, Gary Allan and Chris Stapleton all landing Top 40 hits with his compositions.
