Iowa Football Coaches Hall of Fame

The Iowa Football Coaches Association is honored to submit new members to its Hall of Fame each season. 

The IFCA Hall of Fame honor is one of the highest recognitions that a coach can receive. It honors those coaches who have excelled both on and off the field. Coaches who have impacted players, schools, communities, and the game of football in Iowa.

We are please to announce that this years newest Hall of Fame inductees are:

CORY BRANDT
A product of northwest Iowa football, Brandt graduated from Maurice-Orange City in 1987, attended Northwestern College, returned to MOC-Floyd Valley as a volunteer assistant. He then took his first head coaching job in Burke, South Dakota before setting up the foundation of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley football and never looking back. In 25 seasons at BH/RV, his squads went 185-73 with 17 playoff appearances and six trips to the UNI-Dome, capped by a state championship in 2016. From 2011 until his retirement in 2021, the Nighthawks advanced to the quarterfinals or further eight times. The run included five semifinal appearances in the span of six years, with three undefeated regular seasons. The emphatically won 2016 title in Class 2A earned him IFCA Coach of the Year honors. He and his wife Susan are teachers at Rock Valley and Brandt continues to coach track and field.

DREW CLEVENGER
The active head coach for 20 playoff teams in 25 seasons at Saint Ansgar, Clevenger has built a perennial powerhouse in north Iowa. With a record of 194-71 following the Class A semifinals, the 1993 graduate of PCM has taken a program that had four previous playoff appearances on a journey that includes seven UNI-Dome appearances, the 2011 championship, and seven undefeated regular seasons. A multi-time district coach of the year, he was named IFCA Coach of the Year in 2011. After graduating from Iowa State in 1998, he worked at Saint Ansgar for two seasons as an assistant coach before getting the head coaching spot. Clevenger works as a social studies teacher and he also serves as Saint Ansgar’s head track and field coach.

ROGER JANSEN
A 1981 graduate of Bishop Heelan, Jansen kept success coming to his alma mater as head coach for 18 years and an assistant coach for 15
years. His Crusader teams won 166 games, made the playoff 15 times, logged four undefeated regular seasons, and appeared in six state finals, winning the Class 3A title twice (2008, 2013). His time across the 1990s and into the 2010s included seven conference championships and seven district titles, helping him earn two IFCA Class 3A coach of the year awards. Jansen also spent time as an assistant coach at Lawton and Morningside College.

CURT RITCHIE
A graduate of the reorganized Deep River-Millersburg in 1987, Ritchie began his coaching career as an assistant at local English Valleys and took over as head coach after four years on staff. That began a now 32-year run with 245 wins and 23 playoff appearances after eight seasons at English Valleys and his current 24 seasons at Williamsburg. Ritchie has won over 200 games with the Raiders, capped by the 2023 championship in Class 3A, the first football title for a program that Ritchie developed into a consistent power in eastern Iowa. Williamsburg has made eight UNI-Dome trips across three decades with Ritchie in charge, finishing as runner-up three times (2002, 2017, 2022) before finally lifting the top trophy last season.

MARSHALL SCHICHLONE

A native of Pennsylvania who arrived in Iowa after attending Iowa Wesleyan, Schichlone went 154-77 in 24 years as a head coach at St. Albert (1980-96) and Woodbine (1997-2004). His teams appeared in eight playoffs, including six with St. Albert while playing in the Nebraska Centennial Conference, then two with Woodbine. The Tigers reached the Class A title game in 1997, which remains their best ever finish. Two of his teams went unbeaten in the regular season (1991, 1997) and Schichlone capped his run as a head coach with a final playoff run in 2004.
