Crawford County HappyCats Now Open For Business
The Crawford County Happy Cats is a non-profit organization looking to help manage the feline population. They had their grand opening on Thursday in Denison. Their facility is located across from the Denison Municipal Utilities building. The building was bought last summer, has been renovated, and is ready to help cats. Some of the services offered are vaccinations, as well as trapping, neutering, and releasing the cats back into their environments. They also do microchipping, so if an animal is found, a scan can be performed to aid owners to find their pet. CCHappyCats member Nancy Vogesser said they offer microchips for both cats and dogs.
“With CCHappyCats I'm the one right now who does the microchipping. I worked with Harrison County Humane Society in the past and I learned how to do all of the microchipping there. So I brought that over here to CCHappyCats.”
The organization has found one of its more successful services is the low-cost spay and neuter clinics. For $40 the cat is either spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. These services usually cost upwards of $200 and can be a barrier for pet owners. Vogesser said they encourage anyone with a friendly cat to reach out to them.
“It is a wonderful, wonderful deal. I know a lot of people don't have their pets fixed because the cost is kind of prohibitive, but this way for $40 you get that all taken care of, and then we help control the pet population out there.”
CCHappyCats accept donations and are looking for members to join the organization. They are having a fundraiser on May 2nd. It will be a Staley’s chicken dinner, drive-through only, at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison from 4:30-6:30 pm.
