Estimate released on Shelby County Storm Damage
(KNOD) Approximately 30 square miles of Shelby County was affected by the April 26th tornadoes, causing significant agricultural damage across the area. About 75 to 100 million dollars is the estimate of damage. Governor Kim Reynolds is set to visit the area this morning to survey the damage, signaling ongoing efforts to address the aftermath of the disaster. The National Weather Service says the tornado that ripped through Shelby County formed east of McClelland, tracked north-northeast through the eastern part of Minden to the east of Tennant, then west of Harlan east of Defiance before dissipating just south of the Shelby/Crawford County line. The tornado began at 5:25 p.m. and ended at 6:29 p.m., tracking 40.9 miles. The estimated peak winds were 160 mph. The max width of the tornado was 1700 yards.
