Minden volunteer firefighter wins $10,000 lottery prize to help repair home
Minden resident Gerald Murley deserved some good luck after this spring's devastation. The Minden resident was among many whose home was badly damaged in the April tornado that destroyed much of the community. On Friday, he claimed a $10,000 prize from the Iowa Lottery, telling officials he plans to use the money to help with his family's recovery. Murley won $10,000 playing Mega Millions. Murley claimed his prize at the lottery headquarters in Clive. He bought the winning Mega Millions ticket for the Aug. 30 drawing at the Minden Casey's. He was one number away from winning the $627 million jackpot. The 52-year-old is a volunteer firefighter and a member of the Minden City Council. Five months after the storm, contractors are starting to work on the interior of his home. Murley told lottery officials the prize would help pay for repairs.
