Southwest Iowa Out of Darkness Walk Raises Suicide Prevention Awareness

(Manning, IA) Manning Regional Healthcare Center invites community members to come together in support of suicide prevention and mental health awareness at the Southwest Iowa Out of the Darkness Walk on Saturday, September 19th at 9 a.m. at Manning City Park (Park Ave., Manning, Iowa 51455).
Hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) – Iowa Chapter, the walk brings the community together to honor those lost to suicide, support those affected, and raise awareness of suicide prevention and mental health resources.
“Events like the Out of the Darkness Walk remind people that support is available right here in our community,” said MRHC’s Chief Nursing Officer, Michelle Andersen, RN, BSN. “Coming together as a community helps create important conversations, break down the stigma surrounding mental health, and remind those who may be struggling that support and resources are available close to home.”
The Out of the Darkness Walks are part of a nationwide effort by AFSP to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention research, education, advocacy, and support for those affected by suicide. To learn more and register for the walk, visit afsp.org/iowa.
