Manning to Install Region’s First Columbarium-Ossuary at City Cemetery in 2027

MANNING, Iowa — The City of Manning has announced plans to install a new columbarium-ossuary at Manning City Cemetery in 2027, providing families with an additional option for the permanent placement and memorialization of cremated remains.
The project, described by city officials as the first of its kind in the region, is expected to be installed during the spring or summer of 2027. The memorial will feature 96 private niches, each capable of accommodating up to two urns, along with a central ossuary vault offering an alternative resting place for cremated remains.
According to information published on the city's website, each private niche will measure approximately 10.5 inches by 10.5 inches and feature a polished mahogany granite front. The granite panels will be inscribed with the names and birth and death years of those interred. The central ossuary will feature a memorial band with a sanded mahogany granite finish, displaying similar identifying information for individuals whose remains are placed within the shared vault.
The addition represents an expansion of burial and memorial options at Manning City Cemetery, located at 1220 Center Street. The cemetery has served the community for more than a century, with more than 3,000 burials recorded during that time.
The city is currently offering a $200 discount for individuals or families who reserve a space in the columbarium or ossuary before installation. Regular pricing, cemetery regulations and additional information about the memorial are available through the city's official website.
