Scouting America Troop 55 Annual Wreath Sales/Wreaths Across America
Scouting America Boy Scout Troop 55 in Denison is once again selling wreaths for the upcoming holiday season. Wreath sales are already in progress and will end on November 14th, with approximate delivery in late November and early December. Scouts are also participating in the Wreaths Across America campaign in partnership with Denison American Legion Post 8.
Scouts are selling a variety of wreaths, swags, table centerpieces, and other holiday greenery items. Each item is assembled by hand in Lakeville, Minnesota. Following delivery, scouts will deliver your items to your home or business.
Wreaths Across America is a national campaign of the American Legion and was developed to honor deceased veterans during the holiday season. A designated wreath is laid at a veteran's headstone by a uniformed scout. The scout says the name of the veteran out loud and performs a scout salute. Saying the veteran's name out loud symbolically means the veteran is not forgotten.
An 18-inch wreath can be purchased from a scout and can be placed at the gravesite of a deceased veteran in the three local Denison cemeteries by the scout or a family member of the veteran. Arrangements can be made to have wreaths placed at other area cemeteries as well.
National Wreaths Across America Day is Saturday, December 19. A ceremony will take place in the chapel at Oakland Cemetery in Denison, then scouts will place wreaths at selected gravesites.
