Rockwell City Teen Killed, Lake View Man Injured in Calhoun County Crash

A tragic crash in Calhoun County on Wednesday morning claimed the life of a Rockwell City teenager and left a Lake View man injured.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the collision occurred around 7:05 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. Highway 20 and Fletcher Avenue, northeast of Lytton. Authorities say 15-year-old Cadyn Oscar Ogden was driving a 2002 Ford F150 north on Fletcher Avenue when he failed to stop at a posted stop sign. As his pickup entered the highway, it collided with an eastbound 2023 Mack semi-tractor trailer driven by 71-year-old Richard Lawrence Kanne.
Officials reported dense fog in the area at the time of the crash. The pickup came to rest in the south ditch, while the semi stopped in the highway’s median. Ogden sustained fatal injuries, and Kanne was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Calhoun County EMS, the Iowa DOT, and Lytton Fire and Rescue. Ogden, a student at South Central Calhoun High School in Lake City, was remembered by classmates and staff, and the school postponed its planned homecoming activities in the wake of the tragedy.
