St. Anthony Birth Place Welcomes 403 Babies in Busy 2025

St. Anthony Regional Hospital’s Birth Place marked a milestone year in 2025, celebrating the arrival of more than 400 newborns. By year’s end, the team had assisted in the delivery of 403 babies, including 194 boys and 217 girls, with eight sets of twins adding to the excitement.

Newborn sizes varied throughout the year, with the largest baby tipping the scales at 10 pounds, 3 ounces, while the smallest weighed in at an even five pounds. Families from across the region chose St. Anthony for their deliveries, representing a dozen counties such as Audubon, Buena Vista, Crawford, Greene, Guthrie, Ida, Monona, Pocahontas, Sac, and Shelby, in addition to Carroll County.

The department saw its busiest stretch during the week of May 19 through May 26, when 25 babies were born in just seven days, including one particularly active day that saw nine deliveries. When it came to naming trends, there was a four-way tie for the most popular names of the year, with Cohen and Beckett leading for boys, and Evelyn and Emerson topping the list for girls.

The year’s first arrival came just minutes after midnight, as a baby boy was born at 12:33 a.m., weighing eight pounds and measuring 19 inches long.
