Cherokee Man Arrested After Allegedly Attempting to Meet Minor in Undercover Sting
A 75-year-old Cherokee man is facing felony charges following his arrest earlier this month in connection with an undercover investigation.
Court records show Leon Klotz, of Cherokee, was taken into custody on February 11 after authorities say he arranged to meet someone he believed was a 15-year-old boy for sexual purposes in Sutherland, Iowa. The individual was reportedly an undercover law enforcement officer.
According to the criminal complaint, Klotz engaged in online conversations with the officer prior to the planned meeting.
He has been charged with Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, a Class B felony, and Grooming, a Class D felony. Klotz later posted a $5,000 bond. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for February 23.
