DHS Jazz One Qualifies for 2026 Iowa Jazz Championships
(GLENWOOD, IA) Denison High School’s Jazz One has officially secured its spot at the 2026 Iowa Jazz Championships after a strong performance at the district qualifying contest held in Glenwood.
Jazz One earned a second-place finish at the competition, automatically qualifying the ensemble for the state championships. In addition to their high placement, the group was recognized for musical excellence, receiving the Best Trombone Section award in Class 3A.
Several students were also honored individually for their performances. Outstanding Solo Awards were presented to Jayden Bradley, Grant Olsen, and Cooper Gehlsen for their exceptional musicianship.
Denison’s Jazz Two ensemble also competed at the district contest, earning a seventh-place finish. Jazz Two member Isaac Flores was recognized with an Outstanding Solo Award.
The accomplishments highlight the continued strength of the Denison High School jazz program as students prepare to represent the school at the upcoming state competition.
