Kiron, Iowa - On Wednesday, February 18th, 2026, at approximately 12:43, the Crawford County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a field and ditch fire near 300th Street and D Avenue. A second caller soon reported that the fire had jumped the roadway.
Due to high winds and dry conditions, the fire spread rapidly to the East. Out an abundance of caution, residents of Boyer were contacted to advise them of the situation and to prepare for possible evacuation if conditions worsened. No evacuation orders were needed.
Due to fire apparatus needing to be able to get back and forth to water supply areas, C Avenue between Highway 39 and 350th Street was shut down to ensure that apparatus could move back and forth.
Fire crews worked to contain the fire as it advanced to the East. The fire was successfully stopped after extensive suppression efforts. Fire crews remained on scene after the fire was declared under control to put out hot spots. Thousands of gallons of water were used to bring the fire under control.
Unfortunately, one fire apparatus sustained damage during the response, and a few farm buildings were destroyed. No injuries have been reported at this time.
