Denison Fire Chief Apologizes for Not Publicly Sharing Plans for Washington Park Bell Sooner

In a public statement, Snowgren said public trust is a foundation of the fire service and acknowledged that he should have been more aware of public interest surrounding the bell, especially given previous community discussion about the Washington Park cabin.
Snowgren said the department had previously told the Parks Director that if no one else expressed interest in the bell, the fire department would like to have it. According to Snowgren, the department was asked Monday if it was still interested, and he said the department’s position had not changed.
The Denison Fire Department plans to have the Washington Park bell restored and eventually displayed in front of the fire station. Snowgren said the goal is to add more traditional character to the firehouse and preserve the bell in a way the community can appreciate.
Snowgren also referenced a similar restoration involving a bell for the department’s antique fire truck. He said that bell, which had previously been painted red, was restored closer to its original appearance and is now being placed back on the antique truck after department members got it running and looking good again.
Snowgren closed by saying the department values the Washington Park bell and hopes the public will as well.
