Denison City Council appoints Dustin Logan to fill First Ward vacancy
The Denison City Council filled the vacant Ward 1 position during Tuesday night's second regular called meeting of June.
The council voted unanimously to appoint Dustin Logan to the post opened by Pastor David Loeschen's departure earlier this year. Logan immediately took his oath of office and participated in the rest of the meeting as an active member.
The council unanimously approved several measures during the session. They re-appointed Rod Bradley and Tom Brungardt to the Board of Adjustments and kept Lisa Hicks and Evan Blakley on the Housing Board before appointing Logan. The council endorsed the hiring of Laura Otto as the Administrative Assistant at City Hall and a new job Flood Department employee job description that includes shifting supervision to the Fire Chief. They moved in favor of a permit for Hot Summer Nights after some conversation about the logistics of the special event.
The council approved a resolution setting the public hearing on the FEMA river embankment project for July 6, a special event permit for the Red, White, & Boom parade, and a slight increase to the Homes for Iowans quote from Frazier Contracting after a brief discussion. They renewed their tourism services agreement with the Chamber and Development Council. CDC tourism coordinator Shani Bonner presented her quarterly report during the meeting. The council also resolved to approve Fiscal Year End transfers from 2020-21 and set wages effective July 1 before authorizing the city clerk to pay bills through June 30.
