OABCIG special election on PPEL levy next Tuesday
OABCIG is holding a special vote next Tuesday on renewing the physical plant and equipment property tax within that school district. Superintendent Matt Alexander says voting on this levy happens every 10 years and they would still be under the statewide average tax rate if it’s approved.
“We’re placing it on the ballot to ask the voters to continue to allow us to levy that amount for equipment and property things like buses and computers and building remodeling and upkeep,” said Alexander.
Alexander says potential upgrades include more cameras for school entrances and buses along with seat belts for the rest of their transportation fleet.
“It’s kind of just next on the list but also with the increased talk of school security due to fairly recent incidents of a lot of school shootings and things like that we want to make sure that we’re secure,” said Alexander.
He says the district would prefer to use funds from this levy to pay for security upgrades instead of dipping into the general fund. You can call your county auditor’s office with any questions about how to vote in elections.
